However, metal or ceramic braces are bulky and need occasional tightening to ensure your teeth move into their correct positions. Our dentists at Roman Dental Arts can help some of our patients realign their smiles with SureSmile clear aligners.

What are Clear Aligners?

A clear aligner is a dental appliance that straightens teeth by applying pressure on them. The pressure helps move teeth into their correct position. Whether you have bite or teeth issues, they gradually shift teeth about one millimeter every day. Clear aligners can correct mild to moderate problems with:

• Overbites
• Underbites
• Crossbites
• Open bites
• Gaps between teeth
• Crowded teeth

What do Aligners Look Like?

Clear aligners are clear plastic dental appliances that fit over the teeth and resemble mouthguards, they fit both the top and bottom teeth.

Clear aligners come to our office at once and we give the patient enough to last a few weeks. Each one is worn for 7-10 days. Once they are nearing the end of wearing those aligners, we will schedule an appointment with you to check on the progress. If you are doing well, additional trays are given.

Maintaining Good Dental Hygiene

It’s essential that you keep up on your oral hygiene routine to keep your teeth free from plaque and tarter to avoid tooth decay. Unlike traditional braces, you do not eat with these aligners in. They are to be worn for a minimum of 20-22 hours a day and can be taken out to eat, drink, brush and floss your teeth. You should also brush or rinse the aligners when you take them out to remove food and drink residue.
